Kirklees Council has staged a special event to say a massive ‘thank you’ to foster carers across the district.

The Fostering Celebration Evening recognised the fantastic commitment of foster carers and the resilience they have shown in caring for children during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Foster carers make an incredible difference to young lives, opening up their homes to give vital support and a loving environment to children who may have had a challenging start.

Clr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for children, said: “Every single day, carers help our young people to achieve better outcomes and fulfil their potential. They make a profound difference and it’s really important that we show them our appreciation.

“The pandemic has been extremely difficult for all of us, but foster carers have helped our children to feel and remain safe. It was a pleasure to attend the celebration event, talk to our exceptional carers and hear their stories and reflections.

“As corporate parents we are committed to providing the highest standards of care to our looked after children. Foster carers provide secure and stable homes for as long as our children need them.”

The council is hosting a virtual information event on December 9 for anyone who is interested in becoming a foster carer. To hear more about the variety of fostering schemes and the extensive support available, please email fostering@kirklees.gov.uk
