How better to start your countdown to Christmas than in the company of Marsh Ladies Choir and Hade Edge Band?

Expect carols, candles and more than a dusting of references to snow when the choir hosts the band in A Celebration Of Christmas at Lindley Methodist Church on Saturday, December 14 at 2.30pm.

Choir member Fiona Wakley will compere a programme which blends traditional tunes with festive favourites all guaranteed to ensure yours is A Merry Christmas.

Choir musical director Ian Abbott with accompanist Kim Kaye, will encourage the audience to join in and share the musical spirit of Christmas thanks to a thread of familiar carols and songs.

You will also hear the haunting melody of Christmas Lullaby, familiar to fans of John Rutter’s music, Nowell for the Merry Citie, a rousing festive piece by Alan Simmons as well as Sans Day Carol, a traditional Cornish carol named after the village of St Day.

The choir will sing the John Williams’ song, Somewhere In My Memory from the film, Home Alone and Carol Of The Bells, based on a Ukrainian New Year song known as The Little Swallow.

Sharing the stage will be Holme Valley-based First Section band, Hade Edge conducted by James Garlick.

The band has a history spanning over 115 years and its rich heritage allows it to play brass band classics as well as to innovate with new and dynamic arrangements from a variety of composers.

Its programme offers everything from Fairytale In New York to John Rutter’s Candlelight Carol and the Nat King Cole classic, The Christmas Song.

Santa Claus-Trophobia, a popular band piece, added to White Christmas and Howard Blake’s atmospheric song, Walking In The Air for the animated film of The Snowman, should ensure the festive countdown is well underway.

Tickets from choir or band members, on 07712 767041 or on the door.
