It’s more about seasoned eatings than season’s greetings for a Huddersfield pub putting on a Crispmas dinner made up entirely of crisps.

The Sportsman came up with the idea following its highly successful Huddersfield International Crisp Festival in the autumn.

This three-course feast includes a starter of Seabrooks prawn cocktail; a main of turkey, ham and stuffing crisps with a side of maple pigs in blankets, parsnip, beetroot and carrot crisps, plus broccoli crisps because it may be Christmas but it’s still important to eat your greens. To finish, it’s Italian cheese and wine crisps.

This Sportsman Crispmas Dinner Combo comes in at just under a tenner.

The pub on St John’s Road in Huddersfield town centre is also doing its own unique twist on a partridge in a pear tree by forgetting the partridge and the tree and instead pairing crisps with beers at its special Christmas Crisp & Beer Pairing event on Tuesday, December 17.

Six bags of crisps will each be expertly paired with the perfect beer. For example, a tangy Cranberry Sour from Vocation Brewery has just the right acidity to complement a turkey, ham and stuffing crisp.

All pairing events at the Huddersfield International Crisp Festival sold out so book early to avoid being left feeling crushed like a crisp.

This festive event was inspired by the huge reaction to the first Huddersfield International Crisp Festival at The Sportsman in the autumn.

Landlord John Fletcher said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to the crisp festival and it demonstrated that the people of Huddersfield and beyond have a huge appetite for crisps. Christmas dinner is iconic so what better homage to this festive tradition than to recreate it in crisp form?”

The second Huddersfield International Crisp Festival is expected to run again in autumn 2025.
