Huddersfield Lawn Tennis & Squash Club Racquetball Team travelled to Old Crossleyans for their latest fixture in Halifax.

Tony Stead played Gary at seed number three in the first match and secured his second win of the season. A close encounter but a 3-0 win to Tony.

Playing in game two and making a first appearance for the team was George Mathews. Although an accomplished squash player, George has played very little racquetball so it was a tough assignment against the much more experienced Himash.

The first game was tough, George lost it 12-14 and the second 6-11. Thereafter George’s superior fitness began to be impactive. He won the next three games to secure a 3-2 victory.

Mike Coombes, therefore, found himself playing in seed number one and played in the third match against Ash.

Mike played well in the first two games and won them both. Ash responded for Old Crossleyans by improving the depth of his serving and subsequently won the next two. The fifth game was a tightly fought affair and at 8-8 it was anybody’s game, but Ash closed out so Mike lost 3-2.

Overall though it was a good win for Huddersfield.
