Kirklees Pride weekend will start in style as Huddersfield BID host their Pride-themed night market on Friday night (June 14).

From 4pm, Huddersfield’s open market will be awash with colour as traders from all over Yorkshire come to celebrate pride with an evening of festivities to ring in Pride weekend.

Drag icon and Brighouse local Divina de Campo will be performing between 7pm and 9pm, bringing her unique style and sassy attitude to light up the market.

Attendees will have a full evening of entertainment to enjoy, from live music to fabulous arts performances, Huddersfield’s open market is set for the full Pride treatment.

The market is free to attend, where visitors can enjoy some freshly prepared street food or select a cocktail from the range of traders.

Local favourites The Reserve Cocktail Bar will be in place to serve those who want to celebrate with a drink, joined by a host of food and crafts traders like That Pizza Cone, The Crafting Student and Yorkshire Print Craft.

Kirklees Pride, which officially starts this weekend, was the UK’s first national pride event on June 4, 1981. Huddersfield led the way for the LGBTQI+ community, hosting a day of celebration and protest for equality as the rest of the country watched.

Huddersfield BID will honour the historic tradition by starting the celebrations early for an inclusive take on their popular night markets.

Sam Sharp, Huddersfield BID manager, said: “We are so excited to be hosting our first ever Pride-themed night market to honour the iconic Huddersfield tradition with one of our own, Divina de Campo.

“Huddersfield is woven into the history of UK Pride after hosting the country’s first national event, so it is an honour to continue the tradition and fly the flag this year.”
