Huddersfield Town fans are again running a Crowdfunder to support Huddersfield Town Women FC – but this time there’s an extra special reason to contribute to the campaign.
This is the third year Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association (HTSA) has run a fundraiser to cover sponsorship costs for the women who have to pay to play.
But this year 30% of the money raised will go to Emma Elford, the sister of Town striker Laura Elford.
Emma, who lives in Barnsley, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2019. She underwent chemotherapy treatment but found the cancer had spread to her bones – known as metastatic breast cancer.
Laura started a fundraiser so that her sister could visit as many places as possible on her bucket list.
HTSA are big supporters of the women’s team and a spokesman said: “The women’s team have been on fire in recent months, reaching the 5th round of the FA Cup and sitting comfortably atop the Northern Premier before the pandemic sadly put an end to the season.
“We want to make sure they have every opportunity to take that form into 2021-2022. To kick things off, we’ve made a donation of £250, and we’re asking Town fans to join us by donating whatever they can spare. Even £1 will make a difference if enough people contribute.”
