Members of Honley Male Voice Choir will be lending their feet – as well as their voices – to help boost mental health and wellbeing.

The choir has organised a five-mile sponsored walk around the streets, fields and woodland of the Holme Valley on Saturday July 22.

The walkers will raise money for the choir’s Charity of the Year – Huddersfield-based mental health charity Platform 1 – and also choir funds. An initial target of £1,000 has been set.

Platform 1 is a mental health and crisis support charity based in Huddersfield town centre, supporting men and women over the age of 16 with complex and challenging issues through one-to-one or telephone counselling, support groups and welfare calls.

The charity has had to close its base at Huddersfield Railway Station due to flood damage and the cost of repair but counselling sessions are still taking place at its other building based in St George’s Square. Read more about Platform 1 HERE.

A spokesman for the choir said: “Singing is a pleasurable activity which reduces stress and anxiety levels and contributes to positive mental wellbeing.

“Please support our sponsored walk as we aim to raise as much money as possible.”
