Teenage boxer Florence Mangeni won a gold medal in the Hull Box Cup to add to the national title she won last year.

The talented 18-year-old, who fights out of Gladiators Boxing Academy in Huddersfield, boxed in three, three-minute rounds for the first time. She paced herself and outboxed her opponent in all three rounds winning by a unanimous decision.

Coach Den Doyle said: “We’ve mostly been working on footwork and a Cuban style of boxing using feints drawing our opponent in and applying two phase attacks coming in from different angles.

“Her head movement was brilliant and, in my opinion, this was the best I’ve seen her box. She was totally focused and won every round against a far more experienced opponent. We are very proud of the workrate she gave and her performance.”

Mangeni will next box in September, defending her title at the national championships.
