Golcar United joint manager Ash Connor is hoping his side can get back to winning ways on Tuesday night after being held to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Goals from two of the team’s outstanding performers so far this season – Dan Naidole and Ash Flynn – put the Weavers in control at Ashton Town on Saturday. But conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes meant Golcar had to settle for a point when it seemed all three were in the bag.

United play Chadderton on Tuesday at the Skye Direct Stadium (7.30pm KO) and boss Connor is hoping victory will once again put them clear at the top of the North West Counties Division One North table.

On Tuesday’s opponents Connor said: “Chadderton are a good side, they’ve had some good results this season so far. We’ve only played them once and that was under a different manager, so they are a bit unknown to us.

“Hopefully we can win the game and keep up the momentum. It would be great to get back to winning ways after the draw this weekend.”

Golcar slipped to second after Saturday’s results though all top three sides – Blackpool AFC, Golcar and AFC Bury – now sit on 20 points heading into Tuesday’s fixtures.

Ashton Town came back from 2-0 down to claim a point.

The home side had the Golcar goal under pressure throughout, hitting the crossbar twice and having a penalty appeal waved away.

The two late goals ended Golcar’s six-match winning run but the Weavers remain unbeaten after eight games so far this season.

On the draw Connor said: “On reflection it was a good point against a good side. They created a number of chances and deserved the draw.

“It’s disappointing our winning run has ended, a run we have worked hard to put together, but we’re still unbeaten and we go again.”
