Golcar United have a trip to the seaside on Saturday when they take on sixth-placed AFC Blackpool and manager Ash Connor is hoping to make it a fifth straight win in the league.
The Weavers currently sit second in the North West Counties Division One North table on 36 points, one point behind leaders Bury.
On the upcoming game Connor said: “We’ve only ever played there once before and we won. It was actually one of my best memories as Golcar manager.
“We were 1-0 down going into the last five minutes. Current Emley player Fraiser Beckett played for us then, and the youngster scored two goals to give us the win. It was a brilliant adrenaline moment that gave me happy thoughts.”
Connor will have a near enough full strength squad to pick from for the game on Saturday.
He said: “Ash Flynn has been back in training so he is in contention for a place in the squad. Dan Naidole and Mike Fish both took knocks in previous games but they should be OK.”
United beat bottom club St Helens 2-1 last time out at the Skye Direct Stadium and despite many people expecting Golcar to bump up their goal difference with a big scoreline, Connor was impressed by the visitors’ attitude and believes they won’t be at the bottom for long.
He said: “It was the hardest team we have played at home all season. They made eight new signings in the week leading up to the game so I knew it would be tough. They will certainly not come bottom if they can play like they did against us for the rest of the campaign.”
