Emley came away from South Yorkshire disappointed after a 3-0 defeat to Maltby Main at Muglet Lane in the NCEL Premier Division on Saturday.
A youthful looking Emley side was committed to the cause and their willingness to work hard and their effort levels were great. However they were simply beaten by a more experienced, stronger and more clinical side.
Both sides had early chances but the Pewits were finally undone in the 37th minute, a corner from the right was nodded in by Jonathan Hill.
Emley started really brightly in the second half, with a tweak to the formation and the switching of full-backs which saw Jack Hardacre pushing forward on numerous occasions.
However, the home side took a grip on the game and eventually wrapped up the match late on as their superior levels eventually told. It was 2-0 when Tom Whiting fired into the bottom corner in the 73rd minute.
Maltby scored a third when Emley’s attack broke down and the hosts raced downfield. Emley’s keeper came to try and close the gap however the shot from Alex Hardwick was already on its way into the net two minutes before the end.
