Four Huddersfield football officials have received an award for ‘Services to Football’ which was presented at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The four officials are John Kingdom, Howard Moxon, Geoff Hyde and Ken Farrington.
John started playing football with Cartworth Moor FC in 1968 and after taking a referee’s course started refereeing in 1972. He also played football with Thornton Ross and Holme Valley Academicals. After retiring from playing football in 1979 he began coaching at Upperthong SC Juniors until 1994, during that time he retook the referee’s course and continued to referee until 2008.
John has served on the management committee of Huddersfield and District Junior Football league from 1988 and is still a life member. John has served as the registration secretary for ages 10-18 and as the referees’ appointments secretary for five seasons. He has been a member of Huddersfield and District Football Association since 1993, serving on various sub-committees.
Howard started playing football in 1967 and played with Denby FC, Penistone Church FC and Cumberworth FC. He played over 500 matches before retiring from playing in 1986. He also qualified as a referee and officiated in the Huddersfield & District, Huddersfield and District Works and Huddersfield & District Junior Sunday leagues. In 21 years Howard refereed 548 matches.
He was also secretary of Denby FC when they played in the Huddersfield & District Sunday Football League and was Vice President and a life member until the League folded. He is currently Chair of the Huddersfield & District Football Association having served as a Huddersfield and District FA council member since 1993. He is also a Vice President and a life member.
Geoff started playing football for Kirkheaton Rovers also played for Kirksteel Wharf and was a player & Assistant Secretary for Almondbury WMC and Paddock. In 1985 he became the secretary of Freemasons Arms in the Huddersfield and District Sunday League until 1990.
In 1987 Geoff took on a variety of roles with the Kirklees Sunday League where he was Secretary, Fixture Secretary, Treasurer and Registration Secretary until 2014. Geoff is also a qualified referee and officiated in the Huddersfield & District, Huddersfield and District Works, Huddersfield and District Sunday and Kirklees Sunday Leagues from 1987 until 2015. Geoff is a current Huddersfield and District FA council member and has served on several committees since 1987. He is also a member of the Huddersfield Referee Association.
Ken started playing football in 1958 as Player/Manager of the 38th Liverpool Boys Brigade Company FC in the Liverpool & District Boys Brigade League. From 1966 he played in the Southport and District League before moving over the Pennines in 1969 to become a player & Honorary Secretary of Metro Kirklees Passenger Transport FC in the Huddersfield Sunday League.
Ken qualified as a referee in 1976 officiating in the Huddersfield and District League, Huddersfield and District Works League, Huddersfield and District Sunday League, Kirklees Sunday League and the Huddersfield and District Junior Football League until 2004.
From 1981 to 1988 Ken was the Public Relations Officer for the Huddersfield Junior Sunday Football League and he also was the Team Manager of Stile Common FC in the Huddersfield Junior Sunday Football League until 1986.
In 1987 Ken became the Chairman & President of Kirklees Sunday Football League until 1999. He was Honorary Secretary of the Huddersfield & District Football Association from 2004 until 2016 and remains a life member.
