George Doyle scored a first half hat-trick as Emley AFC beat neighbours Golcar United 6-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Friday night.
Promoted Golcar join Emley in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division next season and this game may have given them a taste of just how tough this division could be.
The Pewits got off to a flying start with two goals in the first 15 minutes from Doyle, who was one of the emerging talents for Emley last season.
The home side had a number of trialists on show and one of them, Jake Vigrass, worked the ball brilliantly down the right and fired home to make it 3-0. Shortly after it was 4-0 when Charlie Smith set up Doyle for his hat-trick.
After the break two more trialists out to impress got themselves on the scoresheet. Jaydon Sandhu ripped through the Golcar defence for the fifth before Irywah Gooden rounded off the scoring.
