A luxury garden room project by a Slaithwaite-based fitted furniture manufacturer has been shortlisted for a prestigious design award.

Daval has been named a finalist in the Amazing Space category at the 2021 Northern Design Awards.

The project, led by Daval’s creative director James Bodsworth, saw the company design the made-to-measure kitchen living space cabinetry for the oak-framed structure built by Paragon Oak of Huddersfield.

Speaking about the design James said: “Garden rooms have increased in popularity since the pandemic as people look for alternative ways to make use of their outdoor spaces for working and entertaining. This garden room project was a really special design to work on and our clients are delighted with the result.

He continued: “Our clients’ impressive eight-bedroom home is a stunning example of Georgian architecture set in beautiful grounds. Boasting an impactful reception hall, drawing room, library and kitchen among other spaces, the interior of this beautiful home is truly impressive.

“Equally impressive are the grounds in which the house is set, and Daval was commissioned to help our clients bring to life a new summer house built from oak by Huddersfield experts Paragon Oak.

“With the oak structure of the garden room nearing completion, our clients tasked us with designing a kitchen to complement the open, airy space they had created in their grounds. Our clients gave us a fairly open brief and the freedom to lead on the design and colour palette for the space.

“Keeping the light, airy feel of more traditional summer houses, we designed the space with minimal, Scandinavian design cues taking the lead.

“The space works beautifully in both summer and winter, and the kitchen makes the space fully self-contained to allow our clients to entertain all day long and all year round, without needing to make trips back and forth to the main house.”

The winners of the Northern Design Awards 2021 will be announced on November 26 at the Concorde Centre in Manchester.
