Dan Naidole scored his 23rd goal of the season but Golcar United conceded an equaliser and then lost the game to a stoppage time penalty.

Play-off chasers Golcar were beaten 2-1 at home by Ashton Town on Tuesday night as their hit and miss recent form continues.

The Weavers remain third in the North West Counties Division One North table and realistically just need one more win to secure third place.

On the result, boss Ash Connor said: “It’s another defeat and obviously it’s disappointing but we just need to pick things up and take some form into the play-offs now.

“We had a good win against Campion last Friday and then a defeat on Tuesday, hopefully we can get the win we need to secure third spot on Saturday away at South Liverpool.”

Naidole put Golcar ahead in the 34th minute with a brilliant free-kick but the home side failed to build on the lead and conceded an equaliser when Deklan Hill pounced in the 67th minute.

Just when it seemed the points would be shared Golcar gave away a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time and Leo Wright stepped up to score.
