Car parking charges in Huddersfield and Holmfirth will rise from Monday February 19.
Kirklees Council has published details of the increases for council-run car parks and on-street parking.
Charges at Springwood car park in Huddersfield town centre, for example, will rise from £2.50 for up to five hours to £4.10 and all-day parking goes up from £4 to £6.50.
Those charges will be the same for levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Huddersfield Bus Station multi-storey while charges for the upper levels rise from 70p an hour to £1.10 an hour with a maximum four-hour stay increasing from £2.80 to £4.40.
On-street charges for short-stay in the town centre go up from £1 for 45 minutes and £2 for 90 minutes to £1.60 and £3.30 respectively.
Long-stay on-street charges, for such as Milford Street, Queen Street South and New North Road, will rise from £2.50 for up to five hours to £4.10 and from £4 for all day to £6.50.
Kirklees Council has not increased parking charges for 14 years and charges will rise by the rate of inflation – back-dated to 2009.
Charges will also rise in Holmfirth and Dewsbury.
The council also intends to impose charges on all 57 council car parks across Kirklees that are currently free. That includes car parks in Lindley, Slaithwaite, Meltham, Marsden, Golcar, Honley, Almondbury, Marsh, Netherton, New Mill, Skelmanthorpe, Kirkburton, Scissett, Denby Dale and Shepley.
Free parking will be ended at car parks in North Kirklees town centres including Mirfield, Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike.
A 21-day public consultation on introducing charges at free car parks will be launched shortly.
Clr Aafaq Butt, Cabinet member for culture and greener Kirklees, said: “The council is continuing to review fees and charges across all services, this is to enable us to produce a balanced budget in February.
“Parking charges have remained static for the last 14 years but, due to the current financial climate, we are unable to hold price increases any longer.
“Fee increases are not a decision we make lightly and, while we appreciate that an increase in parking charges is not welcome news, we are launching a statutory consultation in the form of a Traffic Regulatory Order (TRO) with a 21-day feedback period.
“We will then listen to the feedback and make a decision that is right for each area at a local level. There will be a further TRO out for consultation in the coming weeks regarding car parks which are currently free.
“Free, timed on-street spaces across the borough will not be affected by the proposals, so there will still be free parking available for those wishing to visit our towns and villages.”
