Golcar United fell to defeat at home for the first time since October as they lost 3-2 to Garforth Town at the Skye Direct Stadium.

Goals from Buddy Cox and Dan Stocker weren’t enough for the Weavers as they lost for the first time in six league games, leaving them 15th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The game couldn’t have started any worse for Golcar. After conceding an early corner which was played short to Garforth’s James Burgess, his ball into the box evaded everyone and found the far bottom corner in the opening minute of the match.

Golcar levelled in the 25th minute when Slater Barnes played a clever ball through to Cox, who finished his one-on-one tidily into the corner.

Just seven minutes later, Garforth were awarded what appeared to be a soft penalty for a foul by Joe Skarz. Dan Coupland converted the spotkick sending new keeper Jordan Porter the wrong way.

Golcar got a penalty of their own just moments before the break and Stocker smashed the ball down the middle to make it 2-2.

Just six minutes after the restart the visitors retook the lead through Sam Barker and that proved enough to win it.

Golcar’s next fixture is on Wednesday February 8, as they take on last week’s opponents Maltby Main in the NCEL League Cup quarter-final.
