They proudly boast to being ‘Britain’s most niche tribute band’ – and they’re coming to Smile Bar & Venue in Huddersfield.
‘Split Frenz’ is a tribute to Australia’s favourite Kiwi party band ‘Split Enz’ and they are on the bill with two other great tribute bands from ‘Down Under’ – ‘INXS GB’ and ‘Crowded Scouse.’
Instead of one tribute band, you get three and tickets for the gig on Saturday November 30 (7pm) are on sale now.
The night will be opened by ‘Split Frenz’, so expect brightly coloured suits, trumpet, congas, 80s synth and the occasional spoon solo – if you ask nicely.
Being in ‘Britain’s most niche tribute band’ brings its challenges but they are completely worth it, says lead singer Leigh Hayes.
“It’s tough to get gigs but whatever venues we do play we always get asked back because we blow the crowd away.
“We’ve been told we’re the most original live act they’ve ever seen by some punters in a post gig glow. And not wishing to blow our own trumpet – even though we do have a trumpet player! – we heartily agree!”
‘Split Enz’ only ever had one hit in the UK – the iconic synth classic ‘I Got You’ – and the door to success was well and truly slammed for them when the follow up single ‘Six Months in a Leaky Boat’ was banned by the BBC due to its proximity to the Falklands War.
They are, however, huge Down Under and have a massive back catalogue of diverse, zany and downright catchy tunes presented in uniquely theatrical style. They even throw in the occasional spoon solo!
