Golcar United will take on Huddersfield Town for the first time in their history in front of fans on Tuesday night.

The pre-season friendly will take place at the Skye Direct Arena and will start at 7pm.

The two sides have met before behind closed doors in a game which ended 3-3 last year. So far there have been over 400 tickets sold for the game.

Golcar boss Ash Connor is excited about the prospect of his players coming up against some of Town’s big names.

“The game will be a big one for us and the lads are really looking forward to it,” said Connor.

“It’s brilliant financially for the club. These sorts of fixtures can really set us up for the season ahead. A game like this can financially be huge for a club like ours.

“Hopefully we’ll get a big crowd in and people will come to watch not just Town but see what we are about too.

“I know the village will be out to support us as they have already in these first few friendlies.”

Golcar have played two friendlies so far, one against Manchester-based side Springhead. United won that game 3-1. Then their second game ended in defeat as Golcar lost 5-1 to Mossley.

Meanwhile Huddersfield Town were victorious in their first pre-season game. They beat Sky Bet League Two club Harrogate Town on Saturday.

It has been a slightly disruptive pre-season so far for Connor who had to isolate due to Covid-19.

He said: “We’ve been back for two weeks so far and I’ve had to isolate for some of it because my daughter tested positive for Covid.

“I missed some training sessions which the other coaches, including Joe Skarz, took. They did a great job and it shows that we have a good team behind the scenes.”
