Last week saw the opening match of the winter Racketball season. Skelmanthorpe Squash Club hosted the 2019 league winners Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.

The match ended in an impressive 12-2 victory for Huddersfield LTSC. There were some close games as both teams got back into the swing of things.

All 3 rubbers started with a few unforced errors, this perhaps was understandable after a long lay-off from competition due to Covid restrictions throughout 2020/21.

As games progressed some longer rallies were played out testing the fitness levels of the players. The players gradually sharpened up the quality of their shots and tactical skills as the night went on.

The final game between Matt Kilner and James Smith was a great watch, with both players showing their skills with drop shots from the back of the court, boasts/nicks and front wall screwback lobs, giving the crowd an entertaining night.

Full match results were:

1) Paul Burrows (Skel) 1, Dan Lawton (HLTSC) 3. The game scores 11-9, 4-11, 8-11, 6-11.

2) Matt Kilner (Skel) 1, James Smith (HLTSC) 3. The game scores 6-11, 5-11, 13-11, 6-11.

3) Howard Willis (Skel) 0, Dave Sykes (HLTSC)  3. The game scores 10-12, 9-11, 8-11.
