The DEBRA UK shop in Salendine Nook will be celebrating its 25th anniversary by hosting a charity football match.

The game on Sunday October 13 at Brighouse Town’s Heffernan Utilities Stadium will see a DEBRA UK team take on Supporting Charities FC.

Both teams will feature an exciting line-up including Emmerdale’s Jay Kontzle and James Hooton, Hollyoaks legend David Kennedy, Bradford City ex-professional football players Lee Duxbury and James Hanson, plus former Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper David Stockdale.

The game kicks off at 1pm and entry will be from 12 noon for a donation on the door. Donations raised from the event will help DEBRA UK provide vital enhanced community support services for families and individuals living with or directly affected by EB, also known as ‘butterfly skin’, an incredibly painful genetic skin condition that causes the skin to blister and tear with the slightest touch.

DEBRA UK shop manager Brian Allinson said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of our shop with this charity match to help support the local EB community and raise awareness of this rare and debilitating condition.

“Our customers have been very generous donors and shoppers over many years so we’d like to thank them for all their support, and we hope they will join us for this exciting game.

“I will be managing the DEBRA UK team, so let’s hope for a win and a great fundraising result too.”

The store is also celebrating the 25 years of dedicated service from Kath Toothill (above) who has been with the shop since day one, first as an assistant manager and now as a committed volunteer.

For those that can’t make it to the game you can find the DEBRA UK shop at Salendine Nook Shopping Centre, HD3 3XA.

The store sells a range of quality and affordable second-hand clothing, homeware, books and more. Find out more about DEBRA UK at www.debra.org.uk.
