The Huddersfield Town sponsored trek to Bolton has raised more than £20,000 for our children’s hospice.

There were 90 walkers who did the 37-mile marathon walk which included an overnight stop in Bury with others joining them for the last 12 miles from Bury to the Toughsheet Community Stadium in Bolton.

They were then amply rewarded for their efforts watching Town’s thumping 4-0 away victory.

All the money is going to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Brackenhall.

The walkers set off from Town at 7.30am last Friday (September 13) and reached Bury 25 miles later at 6.30pm. Water along the way was provided by Shepley Spring with lunch made and packaged by Huddersfield coffee shops Merrie England, crisps from Bradford-based Seabrook and sweets by Approved Food in Dodworth near Barnsley.

The overnight stop at the Village Hotel in Bury featured an interactive quiz hosted by former Town player Iain Dunn.

On the second day a food and water break was hosted by ONE17 Design architects based at Armitage Bridge.

The event’s main sponsor was Slaithwaite-based Garry Scott Groundwork and Maintenance.

Huddersfield Town club ambassador Andy Booth said: “This year’s Walk 4 Pounds, Wander 2 Wanderers was a massive success and we are so proud of every single walker as they all achieved what they set out to do.

“To have raised over £20,000 so far is incredible and you can still donate. Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is such an important charity to so many people and the more money we can raise for them, the more families they can help.

“We look forward to doing these charity events every year as we meet so many inspirational people who will go above and beyond and push themselves as far as they can in order to raise money for a worthy cause.”
