A meals on wheels service in Huddersfield set up during the filming of a highly popular national TV food series has appealed for more volunteers.
In 2011 Hairy Bikers Dave Myers and Si King helped Slaithwaite set up the service to help the elderly and vulnerable in the Colne Valley.
The service has since gone from strength to strength delivering meals once a week to people in Slaithwaite, Linthwaite, Marsden and Meltham.
Slaithwaite Meals On Wheels said: “Sadly Dave died earlier this year but he and Si had set up a vital legacy supporting older people in the Colne Valley community and we want it to continue for years to come but we are now in a position where we desperately need new volunteers to ensure the service continues.
“It would be a great tribute to Dave’s memory if we can keep this valuable service going.
“The service is a lifeline for many older people providing not only a warm, nutritious meal, but regular contact with our volunteers.”
The meals are served once a week every Wednesday lunchtime.
A typical meal is chicken, bacon and mustard casserole with cauliflower and peas followed by fruit tart and custard.
