Police took a specially-trained drugs dog into Huddersfield Bus Station in the latest in a series of operations to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Drugs were seized and an arrest was made in the operation on Thursday August 29.

Officers from the Huddersfield Town Centre Proactive Team stopped and searched 12 people suspected of carrying illegal substances. Three seizures of Class B drugs were made.

A man was also arrested for assaulting a female passenger on a bus and then also assaulting a PCSO.

In recent months officers have conducted a number of plain clothed patrols at the station to catch out criminals, and have conducted numerous high visibility operations. Both of these have resulted in arrests and the seizure of drugs and weapons.

The bus station now has a dedicated PCSO who carries out regular patrols.

PC James Hemsley, of the Town Centre Proactive Team, said: “We know passengers and people using the bus station have had real concerns about anti-social behaviour there and have been working hard to reduce criminality.

“People catching a bus should be able to do so without concern about crime, and we will continue these operations for as long as necessary to ensure they can. Our plain clothed patrols could be there at any time.

“We continue to ask anyone who has information or intelligence about those committing criminal acts in Huddersfield to contact the team on 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat.”
