A new state-of-the-art indoor cricket centre is to open in Milnsbridge.

Sixers Cricket Indoor Training Centre will open in 8,000 sq ft premises in Whiteley Street in September. The centre will have five indoor cricket lanes and bowling machines.

Founded in 2019 by head coach George Sommerville, Sixers Cricket Coaching provides a wide range of cricketing activities, including private coaching, competitive tournaments and school programmes, as well as personalised one-to-one and small group sessions, both indoors and outdoors all year round.

The company has operated without a dedicated headquarters and the new centre is the realisation of a business plan drawn up by George in his final year at university in 2017. He has been supported with £100,000 in funding from HSBC UK.

George said: “Our mission has always been to make cricket much more accessible in our community and surrounding area.

“With the support of HSBC UK, we can now mark a first in Huddersfield with this brand new training facility, making cricket even more inclusive and providing high-quality coaching to those who attend.

“Now, children and adults of all ages can develop their cricketing skills in a professional environment, regardless of their abilities.

“This facility will not only serve as a hub to hone talent, it will also become a place where love for the sport can flourish.

“We’re thrilled to bring this opportunity to the local cricketing community and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have.”

Simon Phillips, relationship manager at HSBC UK, said: “It’s fantastic to support a grassroots business that is dedicated to helping the local community become healthier, more active and learn new skills.

“The entire Sixers Cricket Coaching team are creating a lot of excitement about cricket in Huddersfield and the creation of this purpose-built training facility will introduce more opportunities for local residents to play the sport.

“This will also spearhead significant growth of the business and help its expansion across the UK.”
