The University of Huddersfield’s Sir George Buckley Leadership Centre has secured regional funding that will allow businesses to invest in leadership development training in 2021.

The Sir George Buckley Leadership Centre has been granted funding via the Higher Performing Workplaces project to help boost leadership development across the region.

The Higher Performing Workplaces project is managed by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges (WYCC) and funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).

Businesses that are looking to upskill and develop their leaders can access up to 40% of funding, meaning they will only have to pay 60% of the total cost for leadership development courses that start in September 2021 at the Sir George Buckley Leadership Centre, subject to eligibility.

The Sir George Buckley Leadership Centre offers two CMI accredited leadership development programmes:

  • Level 5 in Management and Leadership – designed for middle managers and aspiring leaders to unlock leadership skills and help inspire, develop, and motivate teams, from managing conflict to coaching and mentoring.
  • Level 7 in Strategic Leadership – best suited to directors and strategic leaders and designed to explore leadership skills and create stronger leaders that can think more strategically and innovatively.

The nine-month-long programmes at the centre will run virtually initially from September and then will move back to a blend of physical sessions run from the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC) in Huddersfield.

Sue Alderson, programme director of the Sir George Leadership Centre, said: “Leadership development is an ongoing process and should never stop.

“Changes in the workplace since the pandemic have provided leaders with a new set of challenges, adjusting to workforces working more flexibly to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of employees. Leaders are having to learn how to adapt to these challenges.

“The funding available via the Sir George Buckley Leadership Centre will be of great benefit to businesses, enabling them to access leadership development courses at a fraction of the total cost.

“Currently the funding is only available for courses that start at the centre in September. Spaces are limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.”
