The full line-up of entertainment has been revealed for this year’s Ravensknowle Children’s Gala at the end of June.
The ever popular event features a parade through the streets of Dalton and Moldgreen and will be held in Ravensknowle Park off Wakefield Road, on Sunday, June 30, from noon to 6pm.
It features bands, majorettes, cheerleaders, dancers and a whole range of entertainment introduced by comedian and children’s entertainer Spike Bonzo.
The gala king, queen and court will take part in the annual procession around the local streets, leaving the park at 1pm.
The event was first held 97 years ago in 1927 and its aims have never changed – to provide a free tea for children aged between four and 14 who live in the gala area, along with a free day of entertainment.
In the weeks before the event volunteers call on each household in the area to distribute the free tea tickets. The tickets can be exchanged on Gala day for a pre-packed tea which usually consists of a piece of fruit, sweets and a drink.
The gala’s website names all the streets that qualify for a free tea.
The gala organisers say: “Everyone can enjoy the free entertainment we provide with many acts on stage and in our large arena. There is no admission charge to the gala.
“Although we now also provide a number of attractions that do make a charge, it’s still possible to have a great day at the Ravensknowle Children’s Gala without spending a penny.”
The attractions include a funfair, stalls, refreshments and entertainment from the Science Boffins, Little Nippers, Dr Diablo, Dangerous Steve, Legacy Steel Band, Delph Band, Elite Cheerleaders and Reverence Dance Studio.
