The countdown to Christmas is on and there’s so many events for all the family over the next few weeks. Here’s a list of what’s happening and when.

2nd to 24th December – Huddersfield Winter Festival Tipi at St George’s Square, Huddersfield. Open Tues, Weds & Thurs 3pm – 9pm and Fri, Sat & Sun 11am – 9pm.

The tipi returns to St George’s Square for Christmas drinks, events, live music and more! (Opening hours for Christmas week are Tues to Fri 11am – 9pm and Christmas Eve till 7pm.) Look for Huddersfield Winter Festival on Facebook for updates.


2nd to 31st December – Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime at Lawrence Batley Theatre

19th – 23rd December – Brunch with Santa at Cliffe House. 10am daily

Join in at Cliffe House for a festive morning with food, a visit and singalong from Santa. Cost – Children £12.50 (includes a present from Santa), Adults £10 per person. To book, call 01484 225083 (select option 3 then 1).


Monday 19th DecemberWreath Making for Adults & Children at Globe Arts Studio, Carr Lane, Slaithwaite, HD7 5AG

Mon 19th December – Down for the Count, Swing into Christmas Concert at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. 7.30pm start.

Celebrate the festive season in style with the vocalists and instrumentalists of Down for the Count Concert Orchestra as they Swing Into Christmas.

This is a Christmas celebration like no other, as Down for the Count recreate the music of Nat ‘King’ Cole, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and many more in a luscious 25-piece orchestral setting evoking the sounds of the great Capitol Studios recordings. Tues 20th December – Family Christmas Workshop at the Tolson Museum. 12noon – 3pm.

With Louise’s Art Workshops. Christmas crafts available to make for ages 4 and upwards – cards, decorations, miniature trees and more. Prices start at £2.50 per person per activity and children must be accompanied by an adult. Drop in anytime – pay on the day


Tues 20th December – Beer and carols at Huddersfield Parish Church. 7pm start.

A fun Christmas social event open to everyone for informal festive fun. With beer, carols and brass – and mulled wine. No booking is required and the event is FREE though donations are invited to cover the cost of refreshments.


Wednesday 21st December – Huddersfield Choral Society sings Messiah at Huddersfield Town Hall. 7.15pm start.

Huddersfield Choral Society and Orchestra of Opera North will be directed for the first time by the outstanding choral conductor Ellie Slorach. They will also be joined by the fabulous soloists, Ella Taylor, Katie Bray, Nick Pritchard and Dingle Yandell. Thurs 22nd December – Family Christmas film day at The Civic Holmfirth.

The Civic will be showing the following films: 10.30am Polar Express, 2pm Home Alone and 7.30pm Love Actually. Click here to book tickets


Sat 24th December – The Huddersfield Nativity & Christingle at Huddersfield Parish Church. 4pm start.

Come as you are or come as Mary, Joseph, an angel or a shepherd, as the church shares a nativity for all people and all ages. The event is FREE. Donations will be encouraged for The Children’s Society.


Thurs 29th December to Sun 1st January – Aladdin at Marsden Mechanics.

Fri 30th December – Orchestra of Opera North: Viennese Whirl at Huddersfield Town Hall. 3.30pm start

As intoxicating, rich and elaborately layered as the finest Austrian desserts, Opera North’s traditional New Year celebration will whisk you off down the Danube in the company of guest soprano Jennifer France and conductor Christoph Altstaedt (Opera North’s Hansel and Gretel; Don Giovanni).
