Members of Huddersfield Irish Centre raised a glass or two of the black stuff to fundraisers who completed a two-day 54-mile sponsored walk.
The Gathering Walk raised more than £2,000 for suicide prevention charities Stamp Out Suicide and Papyrus, Prostate Cancer UK and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The aim of the walk is to “help people reach the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Day One of the walk was from Warrington to Manchester with Day Two from Manchester to Huddersfield.
The Gathering Walk, which took place last Friday and Saturday, is undertaken by a group of friends and contacts from Warrington who annually raise money for charity. This year they were joined by some Huddersfield Irish Centre members too.
Warrington-based Colm Farrell, founder of Stamp Out Suicide, introduced the group to Huddersfield in 2020. They first got to know John Lambe and his family from Marsh after staying with them on a charity walk around England, Scotland and Wales in 2014.
The walk, postponed from last year, ended at Huddersfield Irish Centre in the town centre. The weekend’s activities finished on Sunday with a Gaelic football match hosted by Huddersfield-based Brothers Pearse GGA.
