Kirklees Council is making significant progress with new Extra Care housing in Huddersfield.

The Ash View scheme, which will provide 50 new apartments to help people with additional needs live independently, is being built in Ash Meadow Close, Sheepridge.

The council says construction is currently on track and the final roof tiles on the west wing have recently been laid.

Ash View in the Ashbrow ward is the fourth Extra Care scheme in Kirklees. The scheme will provide 50 top-quality flats, which include specially adapted units for wheelchair users, to bring inclusive and essential housing solutions for older residents with additional needs.

Extra Care schemes are groups of self-contained homes alongside shared communal facilities, such as shared areas and a vibrant communal hub, bringing residents together.

The scheme will be owned and managed by Kirklees Council, with the construction undertaken by contractors Equans Regeneration.

Clr Moses Crook, Cabinet member for housing and highways, said: “The journey to this point has been a real challenge for everyone involved, and I am very pleased that Ash View will soon be ready to welcome its first residents.

“This development is a vital step in our ongoing efforts to provide high-quality, accessible housing in Kirklees.

“It represents our vision where every resident can access comfortable and suitable housing to support independent living for as long as possible.”

Ash View is expected to be completed by winter 2024.
