If you fancy a Sunday afternoon concert packed with great music created by two talented groups of singers and musicians then here’s a date for your diaries.
Marsh Ladies Choir and Sundown Swing will be combining their talents at Moldgreen United Reformed Church on Sunday October 15 at 2.30pm for a concert called – what else – but Sing And Swing.
And that is what the two groups aim to do, sing and play the kind of songs and tunes that will add sparkle and swing to an autumn afternoon.
Marsh Ladies Choir is known for its joyous sound and the warm welcome its concerts offer. The choir will be conducted by its musical director Ian Abbott and Kim Kaye will be the accompanist.
Sharing the stage will be Huddersfield-based big band, Sundown Swing. The band was formed in 2011 by a group of friends who were all experienced musicians having previously played in concert bands, brass bands and amateur orchestras.
Since then, the band has increased in size and has now achieved a full big band line-up enabling it to play music from the Twenties to the Seventies, from composers Gershwin and Cole Porter to the unmistakeable sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.
Although the band’s main accent is on swing music, it also has Latin, waltz and bossa nova style music in its repertoire.
Both choir and band promise an afternoon of individual magical music moments and they also intend to combine forces on a number of joint items to underline that invitation to Sing And Swing.
So listen out for Abba’s Thank You For The Music plus Chattanooga Choo Choo and firm favourite, All That Jazz.
