Milnsbridge-based Specialist Glass Products (SGP) has invested over £675,000 into its facilities, equipment and internal training as it celebrates its 20th business anniversary.

The leading glass manufacturer will invest £465,000 in a Bovone Polishing Machine and an Intermax Laminated Cutting Table, complementing their toughened and flat glass offerings. In months to follow, the manufacturer will also receive a new CNC machine and Bystronic Cranage Machine at an additional £210,000.

Specialist Glass Products will also invest in their employees with training for the new equipment and further training in lean manufacturing to enhance professional development and allow customers to benefit from the most up-to-date industry knowledge.

The firm’s high-spec manufacturing facility allows SGP to create glass bespoke to its exact client requirements, making it one of the only firms in the UK to be able to offer multiple services. Its state-of-the art equipment includes a glass bending machine which allows glass units up to 3,200 mm x 5,000 mm to be curved.

Over the last two decades of trading, SGP has quickly established their reputation as the UK’s leading glass manufacturer, showcasing excellent craftsmanship across curved, flat and laminated glass projects.

The firm has supplied bespoke structural glass used in prestigious locations, including the new Crossrail Elizabeth Line, Hendricks Gin Palace and Cambridge University and recently featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs and Remarkable Renovations.

Following a series of investments and project wins, Specialist Glass Products’ turnover increased by 33% in 2022, and the firm is on track to increase turnover by 21% this financial year.

With more than 40 years of experience in the industry, Andrew Taylor, managing director at Specialist Glass Products, said: “Since starting the business back in 2003 with just two other members of staff, we have seen some tough times, not to mention the past few turbulent years following the pandemic, supply chain shortages and energy crisis. Still, we have persevered and put everything into growing the company into the thriving firm it is today.

“We look forward to continuing the growth we have seen over the last 20 years and are expecting exciting innovations to improve sustainability and battle the energy crisis, especially with the Future Homes standards bill coming into play in 2025.”
