Lindley Christmas Evening will see the local community come out to celebrate the start of the festive season – and help traders bounce back after some difficult years.
The popular annual event will be held in Lidget Street on Tuesday December 6 between 6pm and 8pm and many shops stay open late.
Lidget Street will be lined with stalls run by independent producers and retailers and offer a huge range of handmade and craft goods.
There will also be food and drink on offer, including hot roasted chestnuts, mince pies and hot mulled cider.
Visitors will also be treated to entertainment and music at the event, including a performance from Lindley Infants School Choir.
There will also be a Christmas grotto at Lindley Clock Tower, while fairground rides will be set up on Lidget Street Car Park, which will be closed on the day from 10am.
Lindley Christmas Evening has been organised by Lindley Community Group and Love Lindley, a group of local businesses and residents.
Lindley councillor Anthony Smith, who is also secretary at Lindley Community Group, said: “We’re delighted that Lindley will host the Lindley Christmas Evening again.
“The village is bustling with a huge range of quality independent shops, so it’s great that visitors will be able to benefit from late-night shopping in a relaxed no-vehicle zone, with lots of great food and drink and fun for the family.
“We would like to thank everyone who is involved. This includes Love Lindley, volunteers, sponsors and the local traders.”
His ward colleague, Clr Cahal Burke, said: “It’s fantastic that Lindley Christmas Evening will take place again this year. Things have been difficult over the last few years, so I think this event – as well as the regular community events we have in Lindley throughout the year – shows that there is a strong local community and a lot of resilience here.
“Lindley Christmas Evening will also support Lindley businesses and traders, which is important, as they’ve experienced huge pressures and challenges in recent years.
“Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on small business due to the restrictions, lockdowns and uncertainty. However, local traders have also had to contend with surging inflation, competition from online retail and energy price hikes.
“Buying local means that you are supporting local jobs, the local economy and the local community.
“We are hopeful that Lindley Christmas Evening will be well attended again and would encourage people to come along!”
Lidget Street will be temporarily closed to vehicles on the day of the event, between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.
