Huddersfield Town Women grabbed a vital win at Loughborough Lightning beating them 2-0 on Sunday. Goals from Beth Ibbotson and Kate Mallin fired Town to a valuable three points which kept them within touching distance of the top three.
Town dominated for large parts of the game and took the lead on the 30th minute. A poor clearance from a Loughborough corner meant the ball dropped to Town captain Lauren Griffiths. Her cross picked out centre-back Ibbotson who headed home.
The score was doubled in the 53rd minute when again Lightning failed to deal with another corner. It was cleared away but straight into the path of Mallin whose strike from distance rippled the back of the net, sealing the 2-0 victory.
Town picked up their second win in successive weekends against Lightning after last week’s triumph in the League Cup.
Town currently sit fourth in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division and have taken 17 points from nine games.
Next up is an FA Cup tie away against Donny Belles.
