Emley AFC turned in another good ‘un – or should that be Gooden? – with a 3-0 victory over Silsden at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday.
In the first of three matches in six days, second-placed Emley kept up the pressure on Northern Counties East League leaders North Ferriby with a thumping home win.
Iyrwah Gooden set Emley on their way in the 16th minute with a cracking goal and went on to earn his third successive Man of the Match award.
In-form striker Joe Jagger scored his 17th goal of the season – in the 17th minute – as the Pewits went 2-0 up in the space of 60 seconds.
Emley – now unbeaten in 11 league matches since an opening day defeat at North Ferriby – were in control from then on and Paul Walker headed home his first goal for the club midway through the second half to seal a comprehensive victory.
There were plaudits too for defenders Rikki Paylor and James Knowles, along with goalkeeper Dec Lambton, who ensured a clean sheet. Jake Kelly also emerged with bragging rights after out-shining twin brother Sam, in goal for Silsden on his return to his former club.
It was Emley’s first Saturday home game of the campaign and the attendance was 533, the biggest since 2017.
Emley have another home game on Tuesday (October 11) when they face Athersley Rec in the NCEL League Cup (7.45). They are quickly back in league action on Friday when they go to Hemsworth Miners Welfare (7.45).
The cup tie has reduced admission prices of £4 for adults, £2 concessions and under-13s are free.
