There were amazing scenes against the stunning backdrop of Cumbria as Golcar United sealed promotion from the North West Counties Division One North.
The village club, which only joined the ranks of the semi-professionals three seasons ago, went up in the best way possible – by winning the play-offs.
Golcar finished the season in third place in the league and had to do it the hard way beating second-placed Holker Old Boys on their own ground in Barrow-in-Furness.
Golcar went behind but equalised thanks to an own goal forcing the game into extra-time. Sub Ben Burnett grabbed the winner in the second period of extra-time to send the champagne corks popping – and setting off Golcar’s trademark green smoke flares.
The fans celebrated with the players on the pitch before the presentation of the play-off final trophy, the culmination of a long, hard season.
Golcar made no secret of their ambition to gain promotion this season and they took it to the wire. And didn’t everyone enjoy it?
Huddersfield Hub photographer SEAN DOYLE was at the game and here’s the first in his gallery of fantastic images from an unforgettable day.
