‘Small hands can change the world’ – that’s the message from youngsters at Crow Lane Primary School in Milnsbridge.
The slogan is part of the winning design by children at the school which will feature on Kirklees Council’s school recycling service wagon.
Schools across Kirklees were asked to get creative in a competition that marked the launch of a new commercial recycling service for schools and businesses.
The winning design from Crow Lane was chosen by Mayor of Kirklees Clr Nigel Patrick. The prize is one year of free recycling collections as well as a special visit from the wagon to show the children and school staff their design in action.
Martin Vayro, head teacher at Crow Lane Primary School, said: “We are delighted that we have been selected to showcase our children’s talents and commitment to environmental issues.”
Clr Will Simpson, Cabinet member for culture and greener Kirklees, said: “Since the launch in September 2021 over 119 schools and 193 businesses have signed up for our trade waste service, which is integral to improving our waste strategy, and to realising our vision of a carbon-neutral Kirklees.
“We know that our children are committed to tackling climate change and helping us to improve recycling across the district – they told us so at the Our Voice Climate Festival in March 2022 – and this new recycling service links in closely with schools’ environmental and climate change objectives.
“I’d like to thank all of the schools that took part in our competition and congratulate Crow Lane Primary School for their winning artwork and inspiring message.”
