Emley AFC won their fourth game in a row when they beat Thackley 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Pewits have been in excellent form of late and have risen up the league table.
Richard Tracey’s side looked to start strong, coming off three wins on the bounce and they did just that. Within the first two minutes, Emley took the lead.
George Doyle played a lovely cushioned through ball into the path of the in-form Joe Jagger who charged at the Thackley defence. He dragged the ball inside before slotting home.
With 22 minutes on the clock, Emley doubled their lead. Thackley’s defence failed to deal with a cross which fell perfectly to Alex Metcalfe on the edge of the area. His first time volley saw the ball find the bottom left corner of the net, doubling the Pewits’ lead.
Despite being 2-0 up the visitors tried to get back into the game and on the 34th minute referee Gerald Surman awarded Thackley a penalty after James Ngoe brought down Frankie Sinfield. Ben Grech-Brooksbank took the spotkick which was brilliantly saved by Sam Kelly.
Emley controlled the game in the second half and showed great game management. Substitute Donae Lawrence had a chance to make it three but was denied by a great challenge.
Emley now sit 13th in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division on 36 points after 29 games. Next up they have an away trip to Bottesford Town.
