Home comforts could be in short supply for Golcar United this Christmas. The festive fixtures haven’t been kind and after a home game on Saturday December 4 the remaining four matches of the month are all on away soil.
The club are encouraging supporters to head to The Skye Direct Stadium on December 4 to see their last home game of 2021 against third-placed Holker Old Boys.
The Weavers hope to better their highest crowd of the season, which was 459 against Ilkley Town a fortnight ago.
United find themselves top of the table, having played one game more than second-placed Bury AFC, and after suffering a blip earlier at the start of the month, with a loss on penalties against Steeton in the West Riding County Cup and a 4-1 defeat away AFC Blackpool, they have registered three successive wins.
They responded to the Blackpool defeat with a spectacular 4-3 win against AFC Darwen at The Skye Direct Stadium, where they fought back from 3-1 down with four goals from Ash Flynn. They followed this up with a 3-2 win over Ilkley Town at home and a 3-2 away win at AFC Darwen, where Flynn and Buddy Cox got the goals in both games. Amazingly, all three games saw them trailing, before fighting back to get the wins.
Following the Darwen win at the weekend, they have another away game at St Helens Town on Saturday, before welcoming Holker Old Boys.
The club have recently announced that all Golcar Junior players will be able to attend the game free of charge, as a special gift from the club and an early Christmas present.
Having seen former Golcar junior Kai Phillip make his debut in the Ilkley game, the next player to make the step up could be in the crowd for the Holker game.
The club are keen to maintain a link with the local community and the youngsters playing for their various junior sides and that’s why they’re throwing open their doors against Holker, to show how much they value them.
