Seventy runners from across West Yorkshire took part in the second Colne Valley 10k Challenge at the weekend.
The route went through parts of Longwood and up through Outlane golf course with stunning views over Huddersfield.
Organised by Matt Pattison and Jonny Brook the race raises money for Leymoor Cricket Club in Golcar.
Matt also organises the South Huddersfield Trail and Road Series, as he has for the last eight years, whilst Jonny organises the Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge.
Jonny is passionate about the cricket club being involved since he was 10 years old. All the money raised helps to keep the club going.
On the 10k challenge Matt said: “We created the route to be a challenge but it can be achieved by runners of any ability. We used part of the Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge route to keep the link between the two events.
“Just like all events the volunteers make the day and the support from the community was brilliant, helping the race to be safe and fun for all the participants.
“All the runners came back with a sense of achievement and were rewarded with a great reception and a really cool medal. The feedback we received on the day was brilliant and the comments on social media since have been amazing too.”
The fastest male and race winner was Mark Holden running for Dewsbury Road Runners. Meanwhile the fastest female was Caroline Smith of Stadium Runners.
The event was first held in 2019 but was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. Matt and Jonny are already planning for next year’s event, set for Sunday August 21.
Matt added: “It was great to get the race back up and running again after not being able to host one last year, and we look forward to doing it again in 2022.
“Next year it will be part of a new combined four race running series which should see an extra bit of excitement.”
