Young Lionesses at Westend Juniors in Huddersfield really cleaned up when they raised £500 at a car wash event held at Huddersfield New College on Saturday.
The girls, aged from six to 15, are raising money for a trip to Old Trafford in Manchester to watch the opening game of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament on July 6.
Westend Juniors FC chairman Shaun Weatherhead said the club was taking 60 girls and 40 parents to Old Trafford – and 90% of the girls had never been to a live women’s game!
Shaun added: “Currently we’ve raised funds to pay for two coaches and 60 hoodies for all the girls, supported by a local business, with all funds raised from the car wash paying for tickets.
“The support from the community was absolutely brilliant with a constant flow of cars all morning.
“Supported by ‘Bubbles’ and Huddersfield New College we hope to host another car wash to break the £1,000 barrier.”
