Golcar United made it seven league games without defeat as they beat Penistone Church 1-0 at the Skye Direct Stadium thanks to Buddy Cox’s eighth goal of the season.
The Weavers moved up to 9th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, just four points behind 6th placed Hallam.
There were questions over whether the game would go ahead as a freak five-minute snow blizzard completely covered the pitch before kick-off.
However, thanks to a 15-minute delay and the hard work of volunteers making sure the lines on the pitch were visible, the referee decided the game would be played.
The game lacked any chances in the opening minutes however the hosts soon got going and Cox pounced in a goalmouth scramble to smash home what proved to be the only goal in the 20th minute.
Five minutes before the break, miscommunication at the back between Harry Stead and Dan Stocker allowed Cameron Simpson in behind for Penistone Church but Stead was quick off of his line to save his shot and put it behind for a corner.
In a game of few chances Stocker went close with a screamer from 35 yards and Dan Naidole and Kayle Price also had shots go wide.
Golcar’s unbeaten run will be put under serious examination on Saturday March 18 when they travel to second placed Winterton Rangers.
