Why I Work In… is a regular feature, kindly sponsored by Stafflex, where we ask people about their jobs and the industry they work in. This time it’s MARK PARKER, CEO of Prestons Kitchens on Leeds Road, Huddersfield.

Tell us a little bit about Prestons Kitchens
Founded in 2015, Prestons Kitchens is a German kitchen retailer dedicated to providing high-quality products at prices comparable to those found on the high street, coupled with exceptional service.

What is your role?
As the CEO of Prestons Kitchens, I oversee the overall operations of the company while also remaining actively involved in day-to-day design work and customer interactions.

How long have you worked in this sector?
I’ve been working in this sector since leaving school. I started my journey back in 2005 when I joined my father’s business, which specialised in the same products, delivered to a B2B audience.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to start a career in this sector?
I would advise starting from the beginning, paying attention to detail, and gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of the business, from customer interactions to design and installation. Kitchens are extremely complex and it’s essential to have a deep understanding of the product and the surrounding market.

If you could describe your job in three words, what would they be?
Stressful, unique and rewarding.

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most is being able to offer a product of uncompromising quality to clients across all budget ranges and seeing our clients satisfied with the end result.

What word would your colleagues use to describe you?
Charismatic.

Where do you hope your career might take you?
To the beach!

If someone is reading this and wants to work for you, what should they do?
They should come and see us. We’re open seven days a week and always available to speak to potential new starters.
