The Christmas lights season got underway on Saturday when Honley’s festive illuminations were switched on. Here’s a list of when the lights go on across Huddersfield.

Almondbury

  • Date and time: Thursday November 18 at 5pm
  • Location: Almondbury village centre
  • Cost: Free

Children from Hill View Primary will be performing from 5pm-5.30pm with Slaithwaite Brass Band from 6pm-7pm. Shops will be serving festive treats and will stay open until 7pm.

Huddersfield

  • Date and time: Saturday November 20 at 1pm to 6.30pm. Switch-on at 6pm
  • Location: St George’s Square
  • Cost: Free

Listen to brass bands and choirs playing and singing festive songs from 1pm in the square. Watch out for the walkabout entertainment and enjoy some refreshments from the Winter Festival Tipi before the lights are switched on by the panto dames at 6pm. Look out for the giant Christmas pudding!

Golcar

  • Date and time: Friday November 26 at 5.30pm to 6pm
  • Location: Golcar village centre
  • Cost: Free

Watch the Christmas lights switch on with Huddersfield Youth Brass Ensemble Association playing some festive favourites.

Slaithwaite

  • Date and time: Saturday November 27 from 4pm and switch-on 5pm
  • Location: Slaithwaite village centre
  • Cost: Free

Entertainment including Christmas nativity trail, festive activities and after party at the Fire Station

Holmfirth

  • Date and time: Saturday November 27 at 2.30pm to 5.30pm
  • Location: Holmfirth
  • Cost: Free

Enjoy an afternoon of festive cheer and seasonal shopping whilst listening to live music from Honley Brass Band and Valley Beats Percussion. Be entertained by Crafty Devilz Circus Skills, fire show and a festive lantern display. Don’t forget to watch out for the tinsel tractor drive past!

Skelmanthorpe

  • Date and time: Sunday November 28 3.30pm
  • Location: ‘The Triangle’
  • Cost: Free

Music from Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band.

Emley

  • Date and time: Friday December 3 at 7.30pm
  • Location: Church Street/The Crofts
  • Cost: Free

With seasonal tunes from St Michaels church bellringers and Emley Brass Band. Afterwards all welcome at Emley AFC for the U18 match (free entry with a free mince pie and a warming mulled wine)

Meltham

  • Date and time: Saturday December 4 at 4pm
  • Location: Meltham village centre
  • Cost: Free

Marsden

  • Date and time: Saturday December 4 at 6pm
  • Location: Marsden village centre
  • Cost: Free

Lindley

  • Date and time: Tuesday December 7 6pm-8pm
  • Location: Lidget Street
  • Cost: Free

Late night opening until 8pm. Lindley Infants School, Moorlands Primary School and Salendine Nook High School choirs all performing. Lindley Clock Tower will also be transformed into a Santa’s grotto.
