Info: Part of the Woven Festival – The Q4CLs project provides handmade quilt ‘hugs’ for young people aged 18-24 who are living independently after their time in care of the Local Authority has come to an end. The quilts have been made to promote wellbeing and show these young people they are not alone and that someone cares.

Info: Bringing textile industry demonstrations, higher education tours and careers information together for the first time in Kirklees. A collaboration between Woven, the local textile industry and the University of Huddersfield, supported by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to speak with local textile manufacturers, tour the fashion and textiles facilities at the university, learn about various career pathways into different textile sectors and tour the Technical Textiles research labs to watch textile science experiments. The aim of the day is to inform and inspire young people and their families with the impressive textile manufacturing, science, innovation and design on our doorstep in Kirklees.

Sunday 16th July 2023 – HERD in St George’s Square
Info: HERD is an extraordinary collaboration between artists and musicians and the local community, working with Orlando Gough and Artichoke and developed over 18 months as part of Kirklees Year of Music. The whole herd of 23 sheep will gather in St George’s Square, Huddersfield, for a spectacular immersive day of sound and music. Everyone is invited to go and see the sheep installed in the square, and listen to them broadcast their soundscapes to the world and each other. HERD will conclude with a grand finale event at 5pm, choreographed by Charlie Morrisey. Five specially-commissioned “future songs”, will be performed by the hundreds from the Kirklees community, including primary and secondary schoolchildren, who have contributed to this epic event.
