Basketball comes to Huddersfield this weekend as West Yorkshire Hawks play their first home game.
The team played its first game last week, beating Tameside Vikings 83-71, and its first home fixture is on Saturday (September 30) – tip-off is at 6.15pm.
Hawks compete in NBL Division 3 (North) and the game against Sheffield Sharks will take place at the University of Huddersfield sports hall in Queensgate.
Coach Mark Mills said: “This is an historic moment for the West Yorkshire Hawks. We’ve been working tirelessly to bring high-quality basketball back to Huddersfield and our first home game is testament to that effort.
“The Sheffield Sharks are a formidable opponent but we’re ready to give our all and hopefully make the fans proud.”
One of the rising stars of West Yorkshire basketball is 16-year-old Keshan Jalota, of Golcar, whose dad Rocky runs a newsagent’s in Almondbury.
The Hawks’ sponsors include Paladin Marketing, Stafflex, Drop Clothing and Fititude.
Mark Mills and Greg Dolan set up WY Basketball as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company to provide opportunities in basketball and promote better physical and mental health.
