Members of Woodhouse Musical Theatre Company will be stepping into six-inch killer heels when they take to the stage in Kinky Boots this month.

The talented cast will be pulling out all the stops as drag queens when they appear in the award-winning musical at Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre from March 22-26.

The show, written by pop queen Cyndi Lauper and legendary playwright Harvey Fierstein, transports audiences from a shoe factory in Northampton to the catwalks of Milan.

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, played by Tom Widdop, a shoe manufacturer from Northampton who is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son after his death.

With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, factory owner Charlie thinks his fate is sealed until help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, played by Jonny Kain, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

Together, the unlikely pair learn to embrace their differences and create a line of sturdy heels unlike any the world has ever seen, showing you can change the world when you change your mind.

Director Neil Broadbent said: “We’re so excited to be bringing this amazing and multi award-winning musical to Huddersfield and really hope it will bring smiles to audiences’ faces following the pandemic, and the uncertain times the world finds itself in at the moment.

“As the first amateur theatre group in West Yorkshire to secure the rights to Kinky Boots, we’re determined to make the show a success and have been rehearsing relentlessly for many months.

“Tackling some of the dance routines in six-inch heels has been challenging but the show is looking fabulous and we can’t wait to entertain audiences as we return to the live stage once again.”

Tom Widdop and Jonny Kain are accompanied by a fantastic group of Angels played by Kieran Palmer, Ned Smith, Chris Evans, Djo Fisher, Sam Roberts and Drew Western.

Charlie’s girlfriend Nicola is played by Izzy Andrew, while Jessica Faye, Anne-Marie Senior, Helen Woodhead and Colin Harris are among the factory workers.
