With increasing pressure on families from the rapid rise in the cost of living, local musicians are putting on a concert to raise funds for the Huddersfield-based food bank The Welcome Centre.
‘Waiting for Dawn’, an 8-piece vocal harmony acapella group, have teamed up with ‘Birdsong’, an Americana folk inspired duo for a benefit gig at the Cowshed Edibles in Slaithwaite.
Organiser and singer with ‘Waiting for Dawn’ Richard Dyer said: “Things are hard for many people right now so we’re pleased to be able to help a little by raising funds for this important cause with a night of varied music from the Americas to Asia and Africa.”
Emma Greenough, of The Welcome Centre, said: “We’re so happy to see in-person events taking place once again after such a long time, and we’re delighted that this gig has decided to support The Welcome Centre.
“In the last 18 months due to Covid, we’ve experienced the biggest demand for our food bank in our 25-year history and more recently the increases in energy, fuel and food costs have seen demand rise once again as everyone finds their budgets squeezed to the limit.
“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone taking part and really hope that it’s a great event.”
The show starts at 2.30pm on Sunday April 3, doors open 2.10pm. The audience will be treated to a cream tea in the interval.
