Golcar United boss Ash Connor is pleased to have several players fit again for Saturday’s clash at St Helens and admits he has a few selection headaches in front of him.
United beat AFC Darwen last weekend 3-2 with Ash Flynn adding to his growing tally of goals which now stands at 26 in all competitions. Although Golcar won they had several players missing due to illness or injury with most being able to return this weekend.
Connor said: “It was another good win for us against Darwen and it was nice that we took the lead rather than having to come from behind again!

“They are a good side who shouldn’t be where they currently are in the league. They are a tough side who like to play football so we did well to get the victory.
“The boys that came in did great and with several players returning I have some selection decisions to make, but that’s positive. As I have said all season we have a strong squad and can rely on people to come in and do a good job. Hopefully Dan Naidole will return as well as Ben Burnett and Joe Skarz.”
St Helens still sit at the bottom of the North West Counties Division One North league table. Golcar currently sit at the top of it and can extend their lead at the top with a victory on Saturday.
With Bury AFC not playing until Sunday, the Weavers – seeking a fourth successive win – have the opportunity to go six points ahead of them by Saturday night.
However, Connor knows it will be a tough test as it was when the two sides met at the Skye Direct Stadium.
Golcar won that game 2-1 but Connor said: “We know it won’t be easy and we have to concentrate on what we do. They proved it at our place that they can be a good side. Hopefully we’ll keep this good run going and bring the points back home.”
The game takes place at St Helens with a 3pm kick off.
