Glen Preston made a winning return in the first game of his second spell as manager at Huddersfield Town Women FC.

The Terriers won 3-0 at home to AFC Fylde Women on Wednesday night with goals from Ria Montgomery, Laura Elford and Kate Mallin.

Town took the lead on the 16th minute when Montgomery chased a whipped ball down the line and looked up and saw the keeper off her line. She lifted the ball over the keeper from the far side of the 18-yard box into the back of the net.

Fylde could have been level if it wasn’t for a brilliant piece of defending from Beth Ibbotson in the 35th minute. A ball through the middle of the Town defence was latched onto by the Fylde attack and Ibbotson put in a slide challenge to win the ball and then did  excellently to cover her position and get the ball clear of the Town box.

That challenge helped to keep the score at half-time 1-0 to Town.

Six minutes into the second half Town doubled their lead. Montgomery made a run into the box, after a short scramble the ball went to Laura Elford who smashed it into the top left corner to make it 2-0.

Town had another good chance in the 53rd minute, Serena Fletcher getting into a good position on the left-hand side and her delivery into the box was met by Brittany Sanderson, but her header went just wide of the mark.
